So the Showmaster London Film & Comic Con rolled into London at the Olympia from the 28th – 30th July.
Boasting an impressive celebrity list spanning pretty much all areas of pop culture and nerdism. My day started at 6.30am with getting ready and getting to to the train station for the trip to London, what is always interesting on these journeys is finding other travellers heading to the same place.
After traversing London with Starlord, Olympia was in front of me, now Olympia isn’t my favourite venue to travel to as it’s a pain in the behind to get to and from. Immediately you start spotting people of all ages dressed as their favourite characters from TV, Film, Video Games and beyond, my cosplay this time again was my favourite, Agent 47 of the Hitman franchise.
Inside the venue the main floor is pretty much vendors selling an array of merchaside, so much that if you wanted to you could end up with a heafty overdraft !
The second floor of the venue is given over to the celebrity autographs and photoshoots, and is frankly a bustle of people queueing to get a few minutes with their favourite celebrities and get their autograph, I was no expection, and do have to praise each I met on the day, I know they are getting paid a lot of money to be there, but you have to wonder the toll it takes on them going from photoshoot with several hundred people to sign hundreds of autographs a day.
So, let us look at the Pros and Cons
Pros
- Big name celebrities
- Wide array of vendors
- Great Cosplay Masquerade
Cons
- Venue is a pain in the behind to get to
- The heat can be stiffling
- Queues, virtual queues
While I throughly enjoyed the day, my biggest concern was there was little security in place with bag, I had a military style backpack and a case, neither searched, which in comparison to my last con last year where they both were inspected.
What was amazing is at a con last year I randomly asked a bloke to help put my Agent 47 barcode on my head, and then bump into the same person, with his friend who also was Cosplaying Agent 47 (or Agent 69 as he said !)
If you are thinking of going, my advice, plan ahead, me, I will do a day for autographs / pics and a day for solely Cosplay.
