The annual EGX Expo rolled into the NEC at Birmingham on Thursday 21st to Sunday 24th September, this year I went on Thursday and Friday.  Each year the show gets bigger, the stands gets bigger and the cosplay gets better.

So on Thursday I went casual, it is my day to hit all the games I am interested in, so after briefly purchasing a couple of items from Insert Coin, the Ubisoft section was first on the agenda, the queue for Assassin’s Creed Origins was reasonable, by queue standards at just over an hour, the show crew are always friendly and engaging, inside you got about 20 minutes of game time.  It was similar queue times on the big games I went to, including FarCry 5 and Star Wars Battlefront II.  Queuing for South Park: The Fractured But Whole was surprisingly quick at around 30 minutes, and you get a hilarious 20 minutes of gameplay.

The rule of thumb through EGX is the bigger the titles, the longer the lines, it is never my aim to hit every game, simply some games have no appeal to me.

Being as huge exhibition centre, the food is average quality at premium prices, £3 for a small portion of chips and drinks are not much better, averaging £2 for a small bottle of water.

What was noticable this year was the retail vendors was lesser than the previous year, although Insert Coin and Game Legends continue to represent the gaming geek apparel.

The Friday is my day for cosplay, and my ‘go to’ cosplay for gaming is Agent 47 from the Hitman series of games, it is always a fun and generally well received, none more so that when I met the Outside XBox / Outside Xtra YouTube stars, who love playing through Hitman.  It is also a great opportunity to catch up with other cosplayers and chat, this year included Nathan Drake, Umbrella Corp soldier, Snake, The Joker, a Mini Joker and a Predator to name a few.  Being in cosplay also allowed for a bit of fun with Kong Rabbid and being asked to ride the Giant Drake dragon at Shadow of Mordor.

One treat was having my picture done by Doctor Bells Picture House (http://doctorbellspicturebox.co.uk/), giving my Agent 47 persona a truly meancing look.
